Students spend summer cleaning NH forest trails

Posted: Updated:

FRACONIA, N.H. (AP) - It's been a busy summer for a group of New Hampshire high school students, who repaired and maintained some forest trails.

For the second consecutive year, the Woodsville High School students partnered with the Appalachian Mountain Club to work on the trails.

The Caledonian Record reports during three weeks in July, a crew worked on the Kinsman Ridge Trail going up to Cannon Mountain in Franconia.

In early August, they worked for eight days on the Black Mountain Trail in Haverhill, clearing brush and rocks and making rock staircases.

The program gives students the chance to make minimum wage and receive a half credit toward their overall high school credits.
