ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - A state gambling panel has released the names of organizations pitching 22 different casino proposals. Contenders include hometown business owners as well as gambling giants like Caesars, Genting Group and Foxwoods. The deadline for interested parties to pay a $1 million application fee was yesterday.

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - A New York court says the gunman who killed six and wounded 19 people on a New York commuter train in 1993 tried to incite a deadly riot at an upstate prison. The Appellate Division justices say videotape, testimony and a prison misbehavior report provide substantial evidence that Colin Ferguson threatened violence and conspired to riot at Upstate Correctional Facility.

ALTAMONT, N.Y. (AP) - State conservation officials have announced $1.4 million in grants to 50 nonprofit land trusts around the state. Projects include urban trails and community gardens in New York City, Kingston and Buffalo. Grants range from $2,450 to $75,000.

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - Flags on New York government buildings flew at half-staff today to honor of a Fort Drum soldier fatally injured during combat in Afghanistan earlier this month. The Defense Department said Specialist Kerry Danyluk was injured on April 12th and died in Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany on April 15th.
