Today is Veterans Day at the Champlain Valley Fair in Essex Junction.
Veterans get in for free. And the Veterans Administration set up a mobile clinic to help answer any questions. There's also a lot of information on health care and solving issues veterans are having with claims. Counseling is also available.
The VA serves 26,000 vets in Vermont and four counties in New Hampshire. Officials say the top question they get is about claims. There is a big backlog.
"What we say is we understand their frustration and the VA is trying its best and they are making massive inroads in terms of dealing with the backload of claims right now. So, we just feel their pain," said Dan Moriarty of the VA.
The Vermont State Fair in Rutland started today. The VA has another mobile clinic there to answer questions.
