HARDWICK, Vt. -

Two people are hospitalized following a single engine plane crash in Hardwick.

Police say first responders were called to Pumpkin Lane for a report of a plane crash around 10:30 a.m. Officials say the plane was a 1941 Aeronca 65CA fixed wing, single engine. Police say emergency response personnel removed two people from the plane as it leaked fuel. The pilot, David Ring, 59, and his passenger, Jennifer Manna,46, both of Hardwick, have been transported to Fletcher Allen with unknown injuries.

Ring told police he took off from his flight strip and within seconds lost air speed, clipped a tree about 40 feet off the ground, and then crash landed.
