South Burlington Police are investigating the discovery of an unresponsive woman.
She was found in a wooded area -- between Hannafords and Kmart -- on Hannaford Drive just after 1 p.m. Sunday afternoon. The woman appeared to have suffered from some kind of medical emergency. She was taken to Fletcher Allen Health Care. South Burlington Police, with the help of the Vermont State Police, searched the area looking for evidence -- in case this turns out to be a crime.
"At this point all we know is that she is unconscious, suffered some sort of a medical problem and what we don't know is what instigated that medical problem. Was it naturally occurring, was there some action perpetrated against her? There doesn't appear to be anything. There are no outward signs that lead us to say there was criminal activity... but we just don't know," said South Burlington Police Chief Trevor Whipple.
Police have identified the woman, who is in her 40's, but would not release that information. She is known to have been living at various campsites in this area. The investigation continues.
