Killington man charged in theft of dump truck

PITTSFIELD, Vt. (AP) - A 25-year-old Vermont man is facing a variety of charges after allegedly stealing a dump truck in Pittsfield and then crashing it a few miles away.

Police say Cameron L. Smith, of Killington, was arrested Monday after he'd crashed the dump truck on Route 107 in Stockbridge.

Police say they were called to a Pittsfield home Monday after receiving a report that a dump truck was being stolen. Smith was later found standing in the middle of Route 100 where he was almost hit by a responding state trooper. The truck was heavily damaged after crashing into guard rails.

Smith was jailed in Rutland for lack of $25,000 bail. He's due in court Tuesday.

It's unclear if he has a lawyer.
