Some volunteers who make a difference were honored by the United Way of Chittenden County Wednesday.

The Building Block Awards honor outstanding volunteers working to make a difference in their communities. Eighty-nine people were honored for their work in the areas of education, income and health.

A documentary called the "The Opiate Effect" was the focus of another award. The film is about the death of Skip Gates' son due to a heroin addiction. Gates and U.S. Attorney Tris Coffin received the United Way's Advocate Award for their work on the film.
