Vermont Senator Patrick Leahy has been chosen as the "Citizen of the Year" by the Vermont Chamber of Commerce.
The Democrat has spent 40 years in Washington and is now the most senior member of the Senate.
He has used that seniority to great financial benefit for Vermont. The chamber notes his work this year in support of the EB-5 visa program and in protecting Vermont companies from the impacts of the sequestration budget cuts.
This is the 50th anniversary of the chamber's citizen award. Leahy will receive the honor in October.
