Hartford's citizen police academy

HARTFORD, Vt. -

Ever wonder what it's like to be a cop? The Hartford Police Department is giving the public an inside look.

The department is starting a citizen police academy. The nine-week program which begins in October is to educate the public on various aspects of police work and the criminal justice system. It will be offered as a three-hour evening class, one night per week. The classes will include lectures, tours and hands-on drills. Anyone is welcome to attend.

"How often have you driven by a scene and you saw something happening with police officers and you wondered why are they doing that? It looks like they are doing this. So, this just gives the opportunity to get what we do out to the community and it allows the community to interact with the police officers," Hartford Deputy Police Chief Brad Hail said.

Anyone interested in the program can swing by the police station for an application or register online. Click here for more information.
