BRATTLEBORO, Vt. (AP) - Court documents say a co-defendant in the Vermont case of a man accused of killing a woman during a drug deal has accepted a plea agreement in exchange for his testimony.
The Brattleboro Reformer reports, however, that the details of that plea agreement involving Joshua Makhanda Lopez have been sealed by the court.
Makhanda Lopez has been accused of driving the vehicle in which Melissa Barratt was last seen before her body was found in the woods in Dummerston in 2011.
A federal trial is expected to start Sept. 16 in Rutland for 31-year-old Frank Caraballo of Holyoke, Mass., who has pleaded not guilty to charges he killed Barratt.
The court documents suggest Caraballo suspected Barratt of taking a safe from him containing drugs.
