DUMMERSTON, Vt. -

Two Vermont same-sex couples got some very good news: Green cards are on the way.

Christian Pinillos and Jason Kirchick, and Takako Ueda and Frances Herbert have been in immigration limbo because one person in each couple is from another country. But now that the U.S. Supreme Court struck down the Defense of Marriage Act, they are getting the same federal benefits as straight couples with a spouse from another country.

Sen. Patrick Leahy, D-Vermont, has pushed for this kind of recognition for the last decade.
