Two Vermont same-sex couples got some very good news: Green cards are
on the way.
Christian Pinillos and Jason Kirchick, and Takako Ueda and Frances
Herbert have been in immigration limbo because one person in each couple is
from another country. But now that the U.S. Supreme Court struck down the
Defense of Marriage Act, they are getting the same federal benefits as straight
couples with a spouse from another country.
Sen. Patrick Leahy, D-Vermont, has pushed for this kind of recognition
for the last decade.
