Wetland ruling not expected to derail Costco gas station plans

Posted: Updated:
COLCHESTER, Vt. -

Costco expects to move forward with a proposed gas station in Colchester, despite an environmental ruling this week.

Costco wants to operate a three-island station with 12 pumps near its existing store. But the owner of a nearby gas station challenged the project saying it would endanger a wetland.

The Agency of Natural Resources has now reclassified that wetland, giving it greater protection from development. But state regulators and the lawyer for the developer do not believe the change will derail Costco's plans.
