Vermont is doing its part to get healthy foods to families who struggle to make ends meet, and you can help, too.
The Vermont Department of Tourism is teaming up with the Vermont Foodbank so you can "pick for your neighbor." We're talking about picking apples and donating them.
Last year, nearly 12,000 apples went to Vermonters in need.
"One of the things that we've really expanded on in the last year is working with groups, like civic engagement groups, church groups and also corporations where they send employees out to the orchards to picks hundreds and sometimes thousands of apples," said Michelle Wallace of the Vermont Foodbank.
In fact, Woodchuck Hard Cider will have 25 employees out in a few weeks picking apples. Those volunteers will pick nearly 4,000 pounds to donate.
