Fletcher Allen Health Care reduces 2014 budget

BURLINGTON, Vt. -

Vermont's largest hospital is reducing its budget request for next year -- to get under a cap set by state regulators.

When Fletcher Allen first submitted its budget last month, it was planning for a five percent increase in patient revenues for 2014. That exceeds the four percent limit set by the Green Mountain Care Board. Now the hospital says it has found eight million dollars in savings and has asked to resubmit its budget.

Fletcher Allen will present its revised budget to the Green Mountain Care board on Wednesday.

Brattleboro Memorial and Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans were the only other hospitals to submit budgets for next year exceeding the four percent cap.
