Could Vermont be the next state to legalize marijuana? The debate continues.
Earlier this week, Vermont's senior senator said America needs to smarten up about its marijuana laws. Sen. Patrick Leahy, D-Vermont, applauded the Justice Department for saying it will allow Washington and Colorado's legalization laws to stand.
And Gov. Peter Shumlin, D-Vermont, says he's open to talking about legalizing marijuana in Vermont.
But the state's public safety commissioner, Keith Flynn, isn't so sure.
"I want to see how it works out in other states. We need to have the discussion within Vermont about what it would look like and if it's something Vermonters want. But as the governor said, I think there are a lot of important issues coming up this legislative session and I don't see it happening this time," Flynn said.
