A special community event kicked off Friday evening-- the Addison County Benefit Pull.
Tractor pullers gather at the fairgrounds for the annual event to raise money for local families in need.
Organizers spent the day getting the field ready.
There will be pulls Friday night and all day Saturday starting at 10 a.m.
The event was started by Jason and Tim Van De Weert after they lost their father to Lou Gehrig's disease. The community rallied around the family raising money to help out. Now, the tractor pulling community is carrying on that tradition to help out others in need.
"For example, last year we planned on doing six families and we did so well with the events and proceeds we ended up actually giving to 10 different families. We just try to help people in need and hope their lives can be made better by what we do here," Jason Van De Weert said.
This event has been able to give more than $165,000 over the past seven years helping 30 Vermont families in need.
