There's a groundbreaking Monday for a new bridge on the Long Trail in Bolton.
Right now, hikers have to take detours that are miles long to cross The Winooski River. The Green Mountain Club says its footbridge project has been in the works for about a hundred years.
The legislature approved $500 for it back in 1913. Hundreds of thousands of dollars later, it's finally happening.
"That area, the Winooski River Valley in Bolton, has been the home of the Long Trail for a long time, but we've never really had a perfect route. So we're looking for something that is safe, trail appropriate, and permanent," says Will Wiquist, Executive Director of the Green Mountain Club.
Wiquist says many Long Trail hikers admit to skipping that part of the trail because it's such a problem. They've come out and donated to make this bridge happen.
Due to restrictions for crossing railroad tracks, Monday's event is not open to the public.
