20 to take oath as new Americans at Shelburne Museum

SHELBURNE, Vt. (AP) - Twenty people are poised to become new Americans during a ceremony on the former Lake Champlain steamer Ticonderoga at Vermont's Shelburne Museum.

U.S. District Court Judge William Sessions is going to administer to the oath to the new citizens during Tuesday's ceremony in Shelburne.

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services says the event is part of the annual celebration of Constitution Day and Citizenship Day.

Nationwide, between Sept. 16 and Sept. 23 more than 18,000 people will become U.S. citizens at about 180 naturalization ceremonies.

The 20 people expected to take the oath Tuesday in Shelburne are from 18 countries.
