Authorities say it appears a couple of
kids were to
blame for a pair of runaway freight cars in Bethel last month.
Vermont State police say the brakes on
the two cars were released, causing the cars to roll down a spur and crash into
a third car, which derailed. No one was hurt, but police say if the brakes on
the third car had not held, the 250,000-pound cars could have plunged down an
embankment toward several houses.
A tip led police to a group of kids who had
been seen playing in the area. Two of them were cited to appear in juvenile
