Two California men escaped serious injuries after their plane went down in Middletown Springs. Rescue crews located the small single engine Cesna in a field off Route 140. It had significant damage to the front nose portion and landing gear. The two occupants told police they left a small grass airstrip near Burlington and planned on flying to Glen Falls, but they discovered that airport's runway was occupied by air balloons for a planned festival. The pilot headed toward the Rutland airport to refuel, but fell short over the Middletown Springs area. Police say the two men received non-life-threatening injuries. The FAA is investigating. Police say it does not appear drugs or alcohol were involved.
