A house fire at 38 Berlin Street left a quiet Barre neighborhood wondering how the blaze began.
"We came downstairs and there was just black smoke everywhere -- it smelt terrible," said Mallory Parry, a nearby neighbor.
the fire spread, one of the residents of the home frantically called
9-1-1. "The young girl that lives there just came running down the
street and was like, 'What's happening to my house.' She was crying. She
called the fire station and they all came here," Parry said.
say the fire began in the kitchen, but could not immediately say what
triggered the blaze. No one was in the house when the fire began.
was home making dinner, heard the scanner and I came down here and I
saw smoke and they were working on the roof," said Patrick Willis,
"It took about 45 minutes to get everything
under control. We had mutual aid from Montpelier and Barre Town," said
Barre City Deputy Fire Chief Joe Aldsworth.
The two adults and
child that live in the home have been temporarily displaced. The fire
department continues to investigate the cause.
