Spartan Race wraps up in Killington

Posted: Updated:

Thousands of athletes tested their physical and emotional endurance at the Spartan Races in Killington.

Fire, mud, water and barbed wire were just a few of the obstacles at the Spartan Races on Saturday and Sunday. Nearly 10,000 athletes raced through miles of tough terrain and challenging hurdles, over the side of Killington Mountain. Competitors raced for thousands of dollars in prize money and the chance to call themselves a Spartan.

With thousands of spectators and even more athletes, local businesses say the weekend race meant one of the biggest booms since last ski season. "We're in between season, the summer is over, schools back in session so families are doing their thing. So right before foliage, and Thanksgiving -- it's a really nice boost to the economy here," said Laurie Waite with the Killington Super Market.

Stay tuned to WCAX this week for a full wrap up of the Spartan Race.
