Drivers in New York's North Country now have new "texting zones" along the New York Thruway and other state highways.
Nearly 300 new signs are being added to the roadways directing drivers to 91 "texting zones" at existing rest stops, parking pull-offs and park and ride lots. There are three locations in Clinton County and four in Essex. The idea is to stop distracted driving. Governor Cuomo signed a new law in July that boosts the penalty for texting and driving -- from three points to five on a driver's license.
