Vt. educators share ideas on engaging students

SHELBURNE, Vt. -

Educators from around Vermont gathered Tuesday to share ideas on how to engage students in the classroom.

The Education for Sustainability Summit at Shelburne Farms aims to connect the community with the classroom. They hope to help teachers to better understand how to communicate with each other, as well as how to develop effective curriculum.

"This is really a hands-on way of learning, kids engaging in their community, asking questions about the way the world works and then solving the community's problems or enhancing some of the positive things in the community," said Jen Cirillo, the director of professional development at Shelburne Farms.

Teachers shared their experiences in using service learning projects in meetings throughout the day.
