The University of Vermont men's hockey team has been picked to finish ninth in the newly-expanded eleven team Hockey East Conference. Vermont garnered just thirty-four points in the voting, eleven points behind eighth place Maine. Just six points separate UVM from the tenth and eleventh place teams, UMass and Northeastern. UMass-Lowell and Boston College finished tied for first in the poll, with New Hampshire and Hockey East newcomer Notre Dame tied for third. Vermont begins it's season with exhibition games October 5th and 6th at Gutterson. The regular season opener is Friday, October 11th at North Dakota.
The ECAC Preseason Coaches Poll is out as well and Dartmouth was picked seventh in the twelve team league. The Big Green did receive one first place vote. Defending National Champs Yale earned the top spot in the poll. The ECAC media poll also came out with the Big Green picked to finish tied for fifth. Dartmouth plays an exhibition game Friday, October 18th at Thompson Arena. They drop the puck on the regular season the following Friday at Princeton.
