The Grand Opening of the new Hannaford in Milton welcomed customers Saturday morning with new and improved additions to the store to help make the shopping experience a little easier.
Doors opened bright and early Saturday. "We've waited a long time to have such a store," said shopper Lois Thompson.
The new 47,000 square foot building has been the talk of the town customers lined the streets at 3 a.m. to get a first look inside the new building."The line, I mean, three people deep all the way past down to McDonald's," said Rosamaria Fay.
Additions to the store include more isle space, organic foods and a full service pharmacy."We're excited about the pharmacy that we didn't have before, which a lot of our others stores do. We're looking forward to prescription transfers and getting our pharmacy going,"said store Manager Mike Eastman.
"They have more things in there that they didn't have before, like some sushi and stuff like that, so I was just like oh, I wanted to check it out, and hey, got a free hot dog, right?" Fay said.
Management says the expansion is a positive addition to the community and an upgrade from the former Grand Union building the store previously occupied."We just really looked forward to this new building, and being next to the old one, watching it go up, it just drove a lot of excitement. Not only with our associates but also with a lot of people in town," Eastman said.
"We can feel like a community, seeing each other and everyone is being a part of what's going on in our town, making it a bigger and better place to be," Thompson said.
And Saturday, residents packed the isles, enjoying their new shopping experience.
