BRANDON, Vt. -

An artist who captured Vermont in his contemporary folk art is being honored in the art world.

Warren Kimble is being honored with the Governor's Award for Excellence in the Arts Tuesday along with several other artists.

The Rutland Herald reports Kimble moved to Vermont in 1970 to teach at Castleton State College, but his work did not receive as much recognition until a Woodstock graphics company launched his art career. Now, the Brandon based artist is recognized as one of America's foremost contemporary folk artists of the time. It is estimated people spend about $40 million on his work every year.
