Did you know that the price of a hair cut at a nice salon in our area could send a teenager in Africa to high school?
Sending young girls to school in northern Ghana was the focus of a benefit at the Belleza Salon in West Lebanon Monday. Stylists donated their time and skills. The proceeds from every haircut were donated to the nonprofit "For Girls Sake." It's a group of nine women whose focus is to educate girls around the world.
"The first one to not go to school would be the girls because they can be of such help but in fact they are the ones who should be going to school because they can give so much back to their community," said Sheryl Stotland, the event's organizer.
"It was always our intentions to host charity events and give back to the community and this seemed like a perfect organization. There is a lot of girl power in this salon," said Nicole Boylen with Belleza Salon.
Along with an auction, the salon was hoping to raise $5,000 from Monday's event -- that could send up to 20 young girls to high school in Ghana.
