The Vermont women's hockey team is on a mission, to make their team Vermont's team. The Cats kicked off the first of two "Grow the Game" meet and greet opportunities Sunday in St. Albans. Young female players and fans were given the opportunity to watch UVM practice before spending time with their favorite Catamounts.
"It's important for us to go out into the community and help this sport grow," UVM Head Coach Jim Plumer said. "Watching our team interact with fans and potential players is great for our program."
"I remember being in their shoes," UVM Goaltender Madison Litchfield said. "It's just great to be here and let them know anything is possible."
Litchfield and teammate Amanda Pelkey are the two Vermont natives on the roster.
"I remember coming here as a kid and it was always a big deal," Pelkey said. "Now I'm doing it in a UVM jersey and not a midgets one.
The second "Grow the Game" will take place in Waterbury later this season.
