NEWPORT, Vt. -

The mayor of Newport on Tuesday pleaded guilty to drunk driving.

Paul Monette was cited into court for DUI after crashing his car on Interstate 91 in July. Vermont State police say blood alcohol tests showed he was over the legal limit.

This was Monette's second drunk driving incident.

Tuesday at his arraignment he pleaded guilty and received a suspended sentence of 6-18 months, meaning he will serve no jail time if he stays out of trouble. Monette will have to perform 200 hours of community service and pay a $750 fine.
