Vt. businesses team up to help homeless

Posted: Updated:

Vermont businesses are teaming up to help the homeless prepare for the cold months ahead.

Lenny's Shoe and Apparel, Darn Tough Vermont and Smartwool are donating $11,000 worth of socks and nearly $1,500 in cash to local shelters. Representatives from COTS Homeless shelter and the Samaritan House were there. This is the third year the nonprofits are partnering with the companies to make sure the homeless stay warm.

"The cash goes a long way to stock their food shelves and the socks are just something that the patrons who do come into these shelters are always in need of good warm clothing, socks being one of those things and the socks from Darn Tough and Smartwool, they don't get any better than that," said Mark McCarthy of Lenny's Shoe and Apparel.

Last year, Lenny's donated more than $13,000 worth of socks and hopes to continue supporting local shelters.
