ELIZABETHTOWN, N.Y. -

The man who police say was the leader of a deadly gang-style beating in northern New York has been convicted.

An Essex County Jury found 40-year-old Paul Taylor guilty of second-degree murder in the death of Robert Rennie.

Police say Taylor and two other men kicked and beat Rennie to death in Keeseville last August.

Taylor faces a maximum sentence of life in prison for the conviction.

The Plattsburgh Press-Republican reports he had previously served more than a decade behind bars for a prior second-degree manslaughter conviction for another death.

Taylor will be sentenced in December.
