BENNINGTON, Vt. (AP) - A new Vermont Welcome Center on Route 279 in Bennington is scheduled to open Oct. 11.
The Bennington Banner reports a Sept. 1 date had been targeted, but much of the delay can be blamed on a fire that happened in May. It was caused by a propane heater.
The welcome center is owned by the state but will be run by the Bennington Area Chamber of Commerce. Chamber Executive Director Joanne Erenhouse has hired at least eight people to be at the center every day of the year from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Two people will be on site at all times to keep it clean and provide information.
