BURLINGTON, Vt. -

The Burlington woman beaten in the head with a baseball bat is improving.

Colleen Scarola is now listed in serious condition at Fletcher Allen Health Care. The 36-year-old mother had been in critical condition since being hospitalized 11 days ago.

Police say Scarola's husband, James, hit her in the head with an aluminum baseball bat at their home in the city's Old North End. The Scarolas are in the process of getting a divorce.

Colleen Scarola's brother-in-law told WCAX News Thursday that Colleen responded to his voice by squeezing his hand.
