Hay sculptures take over Killington

Posted: Updated:
KILLINGTON, Vt. -

There isn't just foliage to see in Killington this fall. Dozens of giant hay sculptures are turning heads across town.

Until Columbus Day, the massive sculptures are giving visitors plenty to look at. Each year, the Killington Hay Festival offers a different theme for businesses to build their masterpieces -- this year is animals.

The festival is organized as a scavenger hunt that lead participants all over Killington and to the 28 hay animals. Local businesses say it's a fun way to give visitors more than foliage to look at.

"It's fun -- it's fun -- it really is," said hay sculptor Kevin Towne. "It's cool because the people drive by and they get excited when they see the stuff and they kind of beep and stuff. And it's a local thing too. We've been up here for a while so a lot of people know us. I dunno, it's just really cool."

All of the hay is recycled from numerous Killington events and races.
