Vt. man accused of animal cruelty to undergo mental evaluation

BURLINGTON, Vt. -

A Shelburne man accused in a horse cruelty case will undergo a mental evaluation.

Judge William Grearson ordered the exam Wednesday morning for George Wilson. Investigators say Wilson kept horses in deplorable conditions and they found ill animals and carcasses in his barn earlier this year.

At first, both Wilson and his wife were charged, but she has been found incompetent.

Wilson is representing himself and is arguing for the case to be dismissed. But Judge William Grearson delayed a decision until after his mental exam.

Wilson is a former Channel 3 News employee. He left in 2006.
