FAIR HAVEN, Vt. (AP) - Vermont police say a 7-year-old boy set the fire that destroyed Fair Haven's recreation building.
Firefighters arrived at the building Sept. 22 to find it engulfed by flames.
The Vermont State Police Arson Unit initially found nothing suspicious but police learned a group of children were in the building the evening before the fire was detected. They determined a 7-year-old boy set fire to items in the building that smoldered until morning.
Fair Haven Police Chief William Humphries says no charges will be filed against the boy because of his age. He said the case has been referred to the Vermont Department of Children and Families for investigation.
Fair Haven is a town of about 3,000.
