The season has yet to officially begin, but the UVM men's hockey team has already suffered a major loss. Junior forward Kyle Reynolds is done for the season after suffering a knee injury in Saturday night's exhibition opener against Ottawa.
The injury occuring on this play when Reynolds was checked low by an Ottawa player. Reynolds went down immediately and had to be helped off the ice.
Today, coach Kevin Sneddon said the team was hopeful that an MRI on the knee wouldn't show significant damage, but that didn't turn out to be the case and Reynolds will now have to undergo surgery.
Reynolds had shoulder surgery in the offseason and was looking to build off a stellar sophomore campaign in which he finished as Vermont's third leading scorer with nine goals and 11 assists in 34 games.
