HANOVER, N.H. (AP) - Actor and professor Alan Alda is speaking at Dartmouth College.
Alda is best known for his role as wise-cracking Dr. Hawkeye Pierce on the popular and long-running television show M.A.S.H. He also hosted PBS' Scientific American Frontiers from 1993 to 2005, and helped create the Alan Alda Center for Communicating Science at Stony Brook University on Long Island. The center looks to help the next generation of scientists and health professionals communicate more effectively.
On Thursday, he will deliver a public talk, "Getting Beyond the Blind Date with Science."
He'll also interact with more than 200 Dartmouth students, visiting classes in biology, physics and theater to discuss effective ways to communicate.
Alda's visit also reflects a broader effort by Dartmouth to improve science communication.
