WINOOSKI, Vt. -

Bettering Vermont? There might be an app for that. That's the goal in the third annual hackathon in Winooski. The 24-hour HackVT competition kicks off Oct. 11 at 6 p.m.

Organizers say this event is a great opportunity to highlight the tech industry in Vermont.

"MyWebGrocer, Dealer.com, FairPoint Communications, C2-- we're all big tech companies up here. Locally people know about us, but in the Northeast everyone's not aware of the vibrancy of the tech community up here," said Kyle Munderville, an organizer.

More than 100 people signed up for this year's event. Winners receive cash prizes.
