What to do with the closed down Cornish General Store?
For sale signs are out in front of the building -- which sits at the cross roads in Cornish Flat. The store has been closed since late August after the previous owners retired. Some residents say the store is a focal point in town and needs to be opened back up. A public meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Monday at the store to begin discussing options.
"Well this is the center of town and we have a post office over here and a bank branch over here and we had a store here. And we don't have the store anymore and it really is like losing the heart of the town. This is where you would see people. I have things that I want to ask so and so but I don't see him any more because there is no store to meet him at so it is very important," said local resident George Edson.
Organizers say all options are on the table, including the possibility of a public-private partnership, which is how the Barnard General Store was able to reopen under similar circumstances.
