Nurses at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center are being investigated for failing to immediately care for an unresponsive patient.
The hospital says the patient came in complaining of back pain. Shortly after an initial assessment from nurses, the man was found dead. A staff member notified those nurses, but neither responded. A doctor was later alerted about the death. An autopsy has been ordered.
SVMC reported the incident to the state on Oct. 2. Inspectors found the staff failed to follow policy.
