WATERBURY, Vt. -

The Waterbury Police hope a uniform change could make a small difference in the fight against cancer.

Officers have the option to sport pink badges throughout October, which is Breast Cancer Awareness month.

Police Chief Joby Feccia fought off leukemia twice in the last decade and says the nontraditional color scheme is popular with the department.

"We like it. It's kind of a fun thing to do. It's obviously a very serious subject, but people are like, 'Hey, that's a cool badge,' and they ask you questions about it and talk and share their stories," Feccia said.

The chief says his daughters are big fans of the pink and noted that they're actually cheaper than their usual attire.
