Tech Jam showcases Vermont innovations

Posted: Updated:
BURLINGTON, Vt. -

Welcome to the Tech Jam, a job fair and technology expo right in downtown Burlington.

"Well, I brought a group of ninth-grade students from Williamstown High School because I wanted them to recognize and understand the future potential of technology and jobs for them," said Alicia Rominger of Williamstown High School.

Companies from all over Vermont gather at the Tech Jam to recruit those interested in tech jobs, and to showcase their innovations.

"Well, I mean, it's a great event for the Vermont community, the Vermont tech community. Having started in Vermont we want to keep our core base here at least technologically and we're trying to find people we can hire in the area without having to go farther, having to go to Boston or go to a bigger city necessarily to find engineers," said Gabe Koss of Pwnie Express.

Jon Bondy brought his prototypes along with him to the fair, like his 3-D printer, showing what it can do.

"This 3-D map of Burlington, the Burlington area. Because it has such a large build volume, it's possible to do things that a lot of other printers can't do," Bondy said.

Students were among those demonstrating their inventions. A lithium battery powered racecar built by UVM students can reach up to 70 mph and has no fuel emissions."

"We're here at the Tech Jam to show off our cool car, 'Cleanspeed.' It's our all-electric formula racecar. And to see what the other companies are doing, what other people are doing with technology," said Andrew Giroux of UVM.

It's technology at the Vermont Tech Jam-- a glimpse into the future and now thanks to hundreds of techies.

The Tech Jam is a free event held at the Memorial Auditorium in Burlington. It continues Saturday, opening at 10 a.m.
