Forced mental medication debated

Posted: Updated:

Vermont state officials are debating laws that allow medications to be used against a patient's wishes.

Mental health officials recently presented proposed rules on emergency involuntary treatment to a legislative oversight committee and decided to go back and redraft them after hearing some criticism.

It would allow them to give psychiatric medications to patients even if the patients refused.

That advisory committee is currently reviewing the proposal.
