1,103 enroll in Vermont Health Connect

MONTPELIER, Vt. -

Just over 1 percent of those projected to enroll in Vermont's new health care insurance program have selected a plan. That's the word from Vermont Health Connect, which released the latest numbers Tuesday afternoon.

Officials have estimated 100,000 Vermonters will have to enroll in the mandate. To date, 1,103 Vermonters have selected a plan.

Gov. Peter Shumlin says Vermont's Health Exchange is getting better, but three weeks after the launch of the new system Vermonters still can't actually buy health insurance. Vermont's website has been plagued with problems. Customers cannot actually pay for the new coverage yet and the state may not meet its Nov. 1 deadline for having the problem fixed.

Vermont's system cost $172 million to develop.
