After the Rutland rec superintendent abruptly stepped down in July, the mayor has appointed a new department head.
Longtime rec director Cindi Wright has been appointed as the new rec superintendent. Wright took her first job with the department back in 2001.
The department's head position has been unfilled for months after former superintendent Ejay Bishop resigned. His resignation came after the Board of Aldermen became aware of $50,000 of unauthorized spending Bishop made to an architectural firm.
Wright says she is thrilled for this opportunity.
"With Ejay leaving in the situation he did, we as a department-- we realize that we are doing all the right things, we are really are working hard to work hard for the community. We really see ourselves as our job is to serve the citizens of Rutland City and encourage folks to live, work and play here," Wright said.
The decision will be finalized by the Board of Aldermen in two weeks.
