Hospitals across the country are focusing on quality this week.
It's National Health Care Quality Week. A series of workshops are planned at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center. Experts say improved quality leads to better outcomes at a lower cost.
"We also have sick systems and sick hospitals in a way that need special doctors and types of people who do improvement are really specialists in this and they use different tools for diagnosing the problems in our systems and how to make them more reliable, as well as special tools for the treatments if you will. So, these are the things that we are running workshops on," said George Blike of DHMC.
Wednesday night, the medical center will present three "Varnum Awards" to staff who have excelled in the field. James Varnum is a former president of the hospital nationally known for his work to improve quality in health care.
