Vt. GOP lawmakers set deadline to fix health care exchange

MONTPELIER, Vt. -

Republican lawmakers are giving the Shumlin administration a Dec. 1 deadline to fix the balky health care exchange.

Computer glitches are keeping customers of Vermont Health Connect from signing up for the insurance coverage slated to take effect in January. So far, only about 1 percent of expected customers have enrolled.

Republican leaders in the Legislature issued a statement Wednesday saying it's unacceptable to ask people to move forward with a system without being able to guarantee the coverage as promised. If the system is not fully functional by Dec. 1, the GOP lawmakers want to put off implementation of the exchange.
