The Castleton state football star accused of orchestrating a retail theft scheme was in court Monday.
Brandon Boyle, 21, pleaded not guilty to a charge of felony retail theft after police linked him to over $3,000 of stolen goods from Dick's Sporting Goods. Police say while working at the store in Rutland, Boyle would charge his friends for the purchase of a single item but they would leave with hundreds of dollars in merchandise. Boyle told police he felt pressure to help his friends steal. If convicted, he could spend up to ten years behind bars.
Five other Castleton athletes are also facing charges for their role in the scheme.
